In 1932, a new design emerged to honor the bicentennial of George Washington's birth, introducing a coin that would become a staple of American pocket change. This inaugural year of the Washington Quarter series features a left-facing portrait of the first United States president on the obverse. Above his profile, the word liberty is inscribed, while the national motto, "In God We Trust," is positioned to the left of his neck. The reverse of this silver coin displays a striking heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, perched atop a bundle of arrows. Beneath the arrows, an olive branch curves upward, symbolizing peace alongside strength. The San Francisco mint mark, a small "S," is located just below the center of the wreath on the reverse, indicating its origin from the West Coast facility. Struck in 90 percent silver, this particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only light wear on the highest points of the design. Sculptor John Flanagan created the artwork for both sides, establishing an aesthetic that defined the quarter dollar for decades to come.
