The year 1932 marked a significant transition in United States coinage with the introduction of the Washington quarter. Created to honor the bicentennial of George Washington's birth, this inaugural issue replaced the previous Standing Liberty design and established a visual legacy that would endure for decades. Struck in 90 percent silver, this first year of issue contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Designed by sculptor John Flanagan, the obverse of the coin presents a sharp, left-facing portrait of George Washington. This bust is accompanied by the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" positioned to the left, with the date 1932 inscribed along the bottom rim. The design captures a dignified representation of the nation's first president, rendered with clean lines that are particularly striking in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. On the reverse, Flanagan composed a powerful heraldic scene featuring a spread-winged eagle perched upon a bundle of arrows. An olive branch is nestled beneath the eagle's wings, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside the strength to defend it. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" frame the upper portion of the design, while the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR" is anchored at the base.
