1934 Boone Commemorative Half BU

In 1934, the United States issued a special silver half dollar marking the bicentennial of Daniel Boone, a celebrated American pioneer. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3617 troy ounces, this coin had a very limited release of just 10,007 pieces. The coin serves as a detailed tribute to Boone, who is widely known for his extensive explorations of Florida in 1763 and Kentucky from 1769 to 1771. The front of the coin displays a left-facing, stylized portrait of the famous explorer, with his name inscribed below. The reverse side depicts a significant historical moment, showing Boone standing face-to-face with Chief Blackfish of the Chillicothe tribe, with whom Boone negotiated a peace agreement. This detailed scene also includes a representation of the Boonesboro blockhouse on the left, which Boone established in 1775, and a rising sun on the right. Sculptor Augustus Lukeman created the artwork for this commemorative issue, capturing the spirit of early American frontier history.
