This 1934 issue represents an early year of the classic design, struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint. Because Philadelphia coins of this era did not bear a mint mark, the space beneath the reverse design remains clear, indicating its origin. The obverse presents a dignified left-facing portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Positioned around his profile is the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the year of minting, 1934. This portrait, created by sculptor John Flanagan, captures a sense of enduring strength and leadership. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches, representing both strength and peace. The inscriptions on this side include the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR, and the name of the issuing nation, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
