The 1935-S Washington quarter represents an early chapter in one of America's most enduring coinage series. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. Surviving in Very Fine condition, this coin displays the moderate wear typical of a piece that actively circulated during the mid-1930s, yet it retains the clear details of its historic artistry. Designed by sculptor John Flanagan, the obverse presents a dignified left-facing portrait of George Washington, the nation's first president. The profile is accompanied by the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year of mintage, 1935. On the reverse, Flanagan composed a powerful heraldic scene featuring an eagle with its wings outspread. The majestic bird grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches, symbolizing both strength and peace. The traditional Latin motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, is positioned above the eagle, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame the central design.
