1936 Washington Quarter Good/VF

0.1788 troy oz .900 1936 Good or Better

In 1936, the United States Mint continued a relatively new tradition by striking the Washington quarter, a denomination that has since become a cornerstone of American pocket change. Crafted from 0.17875 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 90 percent, this coin represents the early era of a design first introduced to commemorate the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. The obverse of the quarter displays the left-facing profile of George Washington, a dignified portrait created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the portrait are the familiar inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1936 year of issue. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. Above the eagle, the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are inscribed, while the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is boldly struck below.
