In 1937, the San Francisco Mint produced a classic piece of American pocket change that has since become a fascinating piece of history for modern observers. This Washington Quarter, composed of 90 percent silver with approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal, carries the distinctive "S" mint mark, signaling its West Coast origin. Even in Fine condition, where the signs of circulation tell a story of decades of hand-to-hand commerce, the coin retains its essential artistic character. The obverse of the coin presents a dignified left-facing profile of George Washington. This portrait, created by sculptor John Flanagan, is accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" (rendered in the OCR as LIBERIA) and the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1937 date. This design became a staple of American coinage, representing a major shift in the aesthetic of daily currency during the mid-century era. On the reverse, Flanagan composed a striking heraldic scene. A large eagle with outspread wings stands proudly, clutching a bundle of arrows in its talons, while an olive branch curves gracefully beneath it.
