In 1937, the United States Mint continued its production of the Washington quarter, a twenty-five cent denomination that has become a cornerstone of American pocket change. Struck in 90% silver, this particular issue contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the early years of a design series that originally debuted to honor the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of George Washington, designed by sculptor John Flanagan.
