The 1938-S Washington quarter represents a fascinating moment in mid-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, it retains much of the crisp detail from its original production. Designed by John Flanagan, the coin's obverse displays a left-facing portrait of George Washington. This iconic profile is accompanied by the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1938. The design presents a dignified representation of the nation's first president, which became a staple of American pocket change. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, gripping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The distinct 'S' mint mark of the San Francisco facility is also visible, marking its origin from the West Coast mint.
