1938 Washington Quarter VF
The 1938 Washington quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage, struck in ninety percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing the moderate wear of a coin that actively circulated during the late Great Depression era. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, it carries no mint mark, which was the standard practice for the facility at the time. Designed by sculptor John Flanagan, the coin's obverse features a sharp left-facing portrait of George Washington, the nation's first president. This bust is accompanied by the word LIBERTY arching above him, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned to the left, and the date 1938 below. Flanagan's design has become one of the most recognizable faces in American currency. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the center, its wings spread wide as it grips a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame the majestic bird, while the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is nestled just above the eagle's head.
