Struck at the Denver Mint in 1939, this twenty-five cent piece represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is a remarkable survivor from the late 1930s. This particular specimen has been graded Mint State 65 (MS-65), indicating a high level of preservation that allows the original design details to be appreciated just as they appeared when the coin first left the Denver facility. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of George Washington, designed by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying this central bust are the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", along with the 1939 date positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, Flanagan's design displays an eagle with its wings fully spread. The traditional motto "E Pluribus Unum" is placed above the eagle, while the denomination is clearly inscribed below the main design. The Denver origin is marked by the "D" mint mark, completing a design that has become a staple of American pocket change.
