1939-S Washington Quarter AU
Struck on the eve of a transformative decade, this 1939 silver quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in San Francisco, as indicated by the subtle S mint mark, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, carrying a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces. Its preservation in Almost Uncirculated condition allows the fine details of its mid-century craftsmanship to remain remarkably distinct. The obverse presents the dignified left-facing profile of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the portrait is the foundational motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, placed alongside the 1939 year of issue. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, gripping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. This central motif is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR anchoring the bottom of the design.
