1939 Washington Quarter MS-67 NGC

In 1939, the Philadelphia Mint produced over 33 million quarters, struck in 90 percent silver with a weight containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, earning a high grade of Mint State 67 (MS-67). At this level of preservation, the coin retains its original luster and sharp details just as it looked when it left the coining press before the Second World War. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington facing left, accompanied by the bold inscriptions of LIBERTY and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, with the date 1939 positioned below. The reverse displays a majestic eagle with spread wings, clutching a bundle of arrows above olive branches. Circling the reverse design are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR, alongside the traditional Latin motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. Because this coin was struck at the main Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark, leaving the space below the olive branches clean.
