0.1788 troy oz .900 1940 Almost Unc

In 1940, the Denver Mint produced a classic piece of American pocket change that remains a favorite for observers of mid-twentieth-century coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this Washington quarter contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Surviving in About Uncirculated condition, it retains much of the original luster and detail from the day it was struck over eight decades ago. The obverse features the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's portrait are the inscriptions LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, with the year 1940 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, Flanagan's powerful heraldic eagle commands the center, its talons gripping a bundle of arrows above a pair of olive branches. The Denver Mint's presence is marked by the D mint mark located just below the wreath. The design is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
