This twenty-five cent piece from 1940 represents a classic era of United States coinage. The obverse displays the left-facing profile of the first president of the United States, George Washington. This portrait was created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the central image are the traditional inscriptions of faith and the year of issue, 1940. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread. In its talons, the eagle clutches a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace.
