The 1940 Washington quarter, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Minted with a silver purity of 90 percent, this twenty-five cent piece contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin retains its original luster and sharp details just as it appeared when it left the coining press over eight decades ago. On the obverse, the coin displays a dignified profile of George Washington facing left. The legendary motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned to the left of his portrait, with the year 1940 inscribed below. This side of the quarter was designed by John Flanagan, whose work has defined the face of the denomination for generations. The reverse features a bold heraldic design centered on an eagle with its wings spread wide. The majestic bird grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches. Above the eagle, the traditional inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is clearly visible, while the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" frame the entire scene.
