The 1940 Washington quarter stands as a beautiful example of mid twentieth century American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this twenty five cent piece is struck in 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin retains its original mint luster, allowing the fine details of its classic artwork to shine just as they did when it left the mint more than eight decades ago. On the obverse, the coin displays a sharp left-facing profile of George Washington. This iconic portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and the year 1940. The design was originally created by sculptor John Flanagan, whose work has defined the face of the United States quarter for generations. The reverse of the coin features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, gripping a bundle of arrows in its talons above a pair of olive branches. This symbol of strength and peace is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
