1942-D Washington Quarter AU
Struck during a pivotal year in global history, this 1942 Washington quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted at the Denver facility, the coin is composed of 90% silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Kept in About Uncirculated condition, it retains much of its original luster and detail from the decade of the Second World War. The obverse of the coin presents the left-facing profile of George Washington, the nation's first president. This celebrated portrait was created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the central bust are the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust, alongside the 1942 year of issue. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. The national motto and the country's name frame this striking patriotic emblem, making it a captivating piece of mid-twentieth-century American design.
