During a pivotal year in American history, the Denver Mint produced over 17 million silver quarters. This particular 1942 specimen survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, eventually receiving a high certified grade of Mint State 67. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.1788 troy ounces, it represents the classic mid-century circulating coinage of the United States. The obverse of the coin features the familiar profile of George Washington, accompanied by the national motto of trust and the date of 1942. On the reverse, the design displays a majestic eagle, the traditional Latin motto meaning out of many, one, and the denomination of a quarter dollar. The Denver origin is marked by the small D mintmark, identifying its origin at the Colorado facility.
