1944 Washington Quarter AU
During a pivotal year of the mid-twentieth century, the Philadelphia Mint produced this silver quarter, struck in 90 percent fine precious metal. Containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of silver, this coin represents a classic era of United States circulating currency. This particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor traces of wear from its brief time in commerce. The obverse displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This portrait, created by sculptor John Flanagan, is accompanied by the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" positioned to the left of Washington's neck, with the date 1944 inscribed along the bottom rim. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is nestled above the eagle, while the surrounding inscription reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
