This twenty five cent piece from 1945 represents a fascinating moment in American coinage, minted at the Denver facility during the final year of the Second World War. Struck in 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, it retains the sharp details and lustrous surface that emerged from the coining press many decades ago. The obverse displays the classic left-facing portrait of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the first president's likeness is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," along with the 1945 date. This clean, dignified portrait has become one of the most recognizable faces in the history of United States currency. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions on this side include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR." The "D" mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the Denver Mint.
