1946-D Washington Quarter AU
Struck in the immediate aftermath of World War II, this 1946 quarter from the Denver Mint represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, which equates to approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is a tangible artifact from the mid twentieth century. This specific specimen has survived in Almost Uncirculated condition, meaning it still retains much of its original luster and detail from the day it left the coin press. The obverse of the quarter displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, a design created by John Flanagan. Accompanying the portrait are the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and the year 1946. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a majestic heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, gripping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. The reverse also bears the traditional national mottos and the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR.
