In 1946, the United States Mint struck this quarter dollar in 90 percent silver, carrying a precious metal weight of 0.17875 troy ounces. The coin represents a classic era of American circulating coinage, blending utility with fine artistic engraving. This specimen survives in a condition ranging from Good to Extremely Fine, showing the honest wear of a coin that passed through many hands in the post World War II era. The obverse displays the left facing profile of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanied by the national motto of trust, the portrait has become one of the most recognizable images in American numismatic history. The year 1946 is boldly inscribed at the bottom of the bust. On the reverse, a magnificent heraldic eagle dominates the center.
