Semi-Numismatic
1947-D Washington Quarter AU
This twenty five cent piece from 1947 offers a window into mid twentieth century American coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a classic era of United States circulating currency, preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition. The obverse of the coin displays a left facing portrait of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Surrounding the profile of the first president are the word LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1947 year of production. On the reverse, a dramatic heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches, symbolizing both strength and peace. The Denver mint mark, a small D, is positioned below the eagle, while the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR frame the central design.
