1948 Washington Quarter AU
Struck in 1948, this United States quarter dollar represents a classic era of American circulating coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. It is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor traces of wear from its brief time in commerce before being saved for posterity. The obverse of the coin displays the left-facing profile of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This iconic portrait is accompanied by the inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", positioned to the left of the bust, with the date of manufacture, 1948, anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows in its talons, representing strength and defense, alongside an olive branch symbolizing peace. Surrounding this central motif are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR". This enduring design was originally created by sculptor John Flanagan.
