1949 Washington Quarter AU
This twenty-five cent piece from 1949 represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Struck in 90 percent pure silver, the coin contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It survives today in an Almost Uncirculated state, preserving the crisp details of its mid-century craftsmanship. The obverse displays the left-facing portrait of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Above the profile, the word LIBERTY is paired with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned in the left field. Below the bust, the date 1949 is clearly visible. On the reverse, Flanagan's depiction of a heraldic eagle takes center stage. The bird is shown with wings spread, clutching a bundle of arrows in its talons above an olive branch. The inscriptions surrounding the eagle include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR, along with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM placed just above the eagle's head.
