0.1788 troy oz .900 1950 Very Good or Better

In 1950, the Denver Mint produced a classic piece of mid-century American coinage, struck in 90 percent silver. This Washington quarter contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal, representing a time when circulating United States currency carried intrinsic bullion value. This particular coin survives in a condition ranging from Very Good to Extremely Fine, showing the honest wear of a piece that once moved through the hands of mid-century Americans. The obverse of the coin presents the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. Accompanying the portrait are the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1950. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, gripping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch beneath its talons. The Denver mint mark, a small D, is positioned below the eagle, while the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR frame the central motif.
