Struck during the mid-century era, this 1952 Washington quarter represents a classic period of United States circulating coinage. Minted in Denver, as indicated by the D mint mark, each piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. These quarters have survived the decades in a circulated state of Very Good or better, showing the honest wear of a coin that once moved through daily American commerce. The coin features the famous obverse profile of George Washington, the nation's first president, facing left. Above his portrait, the word LIBERTY is inscribed, while the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST sits nestled below his chin. The year 1952 is anchored at the very bottom of the obverse. On the reverse, designer John Flanagan created a powerful heraldic scene. A stylized eagle spreads its wings, clutching a bundle of arrows in its talons above a pair of olive branches. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame the design, while the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM is positioned just above the eagle's head.
