In 1953, the United States Mint continued its mid-century production of the Washington Quarter, a design that has become one of the most recognizable in American pocket change. Struck in Philadelphia, this particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original minting over many decades. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. The obverse of the coin displays the dignified left-facing profile of George Washington, the first president of the United States. This classic portrait was created by sculptor John Flanagan. Above the bust, the word LIBERTY is inscribed, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST rests to the left of Washington's neck, and the year 1953 is positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a majestic heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle clutches a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above a pair of olive branches, representing a balance of strength and peace. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM curve above the eagle, while the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is displayed below.
