In 1953, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof-strike Washington quarters, showcasing the crisp detail and reflective surfaces characteristic of this specialized minting process. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It stands as a remarkable survivor from the mid-twentieth century, having earned a high proof grade of PF-66. The obverse of the coin features the familiar profile of George Washington, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1953 year of manufacture. On the reverse, a detailed eagle is depicted, surrounded by the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. Because it was struck in Philadelphia, the coin carries no mint mark, leaving the fields clean and focused entirely on the classic design elements.
