In 1954, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of 233,300 proof Washington quarters, striking them with specially polished dies to achieve a level of detail and reflectivity far superior to standard circulating coins. This particular specimen has survived in an extraordinary state of preservation, earning a certified grade of PF 69. At this near-perfect level, the coin showcases the crispness of the original mid-century engraving, preserved just as it appeared when it first emerged from the minting press. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.1788 troy ounces, the quarter features the classic portrait of George Washington on the obverse. Surrounding the profile are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the date of 1954. The reverse displays a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, accompanied by the national mottos UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the face value of QUARTER DOLLAR inscribed below.
