In 1955, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof coinage, including a selection of Washington quarters struck with polished dies to achieve a sharp, reflective finish. This particular twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Out of a total mintage of over 18 million quarters produced that year, only a small fraction were prepared as proof strikes, making well-preserved specimens from this era especially intriguing to study. The obverse of the coin features the classic portrait of George Washington, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of liberty and the national motto, alongside the 1955 date. The reverse displays a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, surrounded by the country's name, the Latin phrase meaning out of many, one, and the denomination. Graded at an exceptional Proof 67 (PF-67), this coin showcases the high level of preservation and striking quality achievable by the mint during the mid-twentieth century.
