In 1956, the United States Mint produced a limited run of 669,384 proof Washington quarters. These specialized coins were struck with polished dies on specially prepared planchets, resulting in a sharp, mirrored finish. Finding one of these mid-century silver pieces preserved in nearly pristine condition offers a fascinating glimpse into the high-quality craftsmanship of the era. This particular specimen is graded in Proof 69 (PF-69) condition, indicating it is virtually perfect with only the most microscopic imperfections. Struck in 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. The classic design features the familiar profile of George Washington on the obverse, accompanied by the inscriptions of liberty and the national motto.
