The 1957 Washington quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage when circulating quarters were struck in 90 percent silver. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original minting at the Philadelphia Mint. Weighing in with a silver content of 0.17875 troy ounces, the coin is both a historical artifact and a beautiful example of mid twentieth century American numismatic design. On the obverse, the profile of George Washington faces left, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The year 1957 is clearly struck at the bottom. This iconic portrait was created by sculptor John Flanagan, whose work has defined the face of the twenty five cent piece for generations. The reverse displays a bold heraldic eagle with its wings outspread, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. Above the eagle, the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed, while the country name UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR frame the powerful central image.
