In 1957, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof Washington quarters, striking just 1,247,952 of these special coins. Unlike standard quarters made for daily circulation, these proof issues were crafted with polished dies and planchets, resulting in a mirror-like finish and exceptionally sharp details that highlight the classic mid-century design. This particular coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has been certified in an outstanding Proof 68 (PF-68) condition, indicating a nearly flawless preservation that has survived for decades. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington, while the reverse displays the traditional eagle motif with the legible inscriptions of the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR, and the national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM.
