1958 Washington Quarter Gem Proof

0.1788 troy oz .900 1958 Gem Proof

In 1958, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking rendition of the Washington Quarter in a brilliant proof finish. Struck in 90% silver, this coin contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of precious metal. The proof manufacturing process gives the coin a highly reflective, polished appearance that highlights the sharp details of the mid-century design. On the obverse side, the profile of George Washington faces left, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The year 1958 is clearly inscribed at the bottom. This classic portrait was originally created by sculptor John Flanagan, whose work has defined the face of the twenty-five cent piece for decades. The reverse displays a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle grips a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, representing both strength and peace. Above the eagle, the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is visible, while the surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR.
