Struck in Philadelphia during the late 1950s, this twenty-five cent piece represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Minted with a composition of 90 percent silver, which equates to 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal, this coin is a remarkable survivor of mid-century American currency. Coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint during this period are easily identified by the absence of any mint mark. The obverse displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, the nation's first president. This iconic portrait was created by sculptor John Flanagan. On the reverse, Flanagan's design features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. The traditional Latin motto meaning "out of many, one" is inscribed above the eagle. This specific coin has been certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition.
