In 1958, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof coinage, including Washington quarters struck with specially polished dies to achieve a mirror-like finish. This particular specimen has been certified in an exceptional Proof 67 state, indicating its outstanding preservation and sharp details. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not bear a mint mark, a traditional feature of the facility's output during this era. Composed of 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse displays the familiar portrait of George Washington, accompanied by the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1958. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, surrounded by the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. Out of a total mintage of 875,652 proof quarters struck that year, very few survive in such a pristine, high-grade condition.
