In 1962, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking version of the classic Washington quarter, manufactured specifically with a proof finish. This coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of the precious metal. Crafted with polished dies and specially prepared blanks, the proof edition highlights the intricate details of the design with exceptional clarity and contrast, offering a window into the high standards of mid-twentieth-century American minting. The obverse of the quarter features the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, a design originally created by sculptor John Flanagan. Surrounding the portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, with the date 1962 positioned at the bottom.
