1967 SMS Washington Quarter MS-68 Cameo NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1967 MS-68 (NGC)

During the mid-century era, the United States Mint produced Special Mint Sets in place of traditional proof sets. This 1967 Washington Quarter, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, represents an extraordinary survivor from that period. While over 1.5 billion quarters were minted for circulation in 1967 without mint marks, finding a specimen preserved in a high-grade Mint State 68 with a certified Cameo designation is incredibly rare. The obverse of the coin displays the classic portrait of George Washington, accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," along with the 1967 date. The reverse features the familiar eagle design surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the "QUARTER DOLLAR" denomination. The Cameo designation highlights the beautiful contrast between the frosted details of the design and the mirror-like fields, a visual quality seldom achieved on these special strikes.
