1968 Washington Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 1968 Brilliant Unc

The Washington quarter first entered circulation on August 1, 1932, created to honor the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. This new design took the place of the previous Standing Liberty quarter. While the series originally featured a silver composition, a major shift occurred following the Coinage Act of 1965. From that point forward, the coins were struck using a copper core clad in a cupronickel alloy, a metallic makeup shared by this 1968 issue. This particular specimen from 1968 is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the classic design elements with exceptional clarity. The obverse features the profile of America's first president, accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, with the date 1968 positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays the traditional eagle motif surrounded by the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin carries no mint mark, representing a fascinating era of modern American pocket change.
