1969-D Washington Quarter BU
In 1969, the Denver Mint produced this Washington quarter, a coin that carries a design legacy dating back to its introduction in 1932. Originally launched on August 1 of that year, the series was created to honor the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. This design succeeded the Standing Liberty quarter and went on to become a staple of American pocket change. While the classic obverse portrait of George Washington remained, the physical makeup of the coin underwent a massive transformation just a few years before this piece was struck. Following the Coinage Act of 1965, the United States transitioned away from silver coinage. This 1969 specimen features the newer composition of cupronickel clad over a pure copper core. This Denver-minted coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the crisp details of the original design. The obverse displays the familiar profile of Washington alongside the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, with the year 1969 at the base. The reverse features the traditional eagle motif accompanied by the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR.
