Issued during the early 1970s, this United States dollar coin honors both a legendary leader and one of humanity's greatest achievements. Struck in 40 percent silver at the San Francisco Mint, each piece contains 0.3161 troy ounces of precious metal. These coins were originally distributed in distinctive blue mint packaging, preserving their brilliant uncirculated condition. The obverse presents a left-facing profile of General and President Dwight David Eisenhower. Surrounding his portrait are the classic American inscriptions of liberty and trust in God, alongside the year of issue and the San Francisco mint mark. On the reverse, the coin features a design inspired by the Apollo XI mission insignia. An eagle is depicted flying above the lunar surface, clutching an olive branch in its talons. The planet Earth is visible in the background, framed by thirteen stars. This side of the coin bears the national name, the traditional Latin motto, and the face value of one dollar.
