1971-D Clad Eisenhower Dollar MS-67 NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1971 MS-67 (NGC)

In 1971, the United States resumed minting dollar coins for general circulation, introducing a design that honored both a national leader and a monumental human achievement. This particular coin, struck at the Denver Mint, contains no silver, utilizing a copper-based clad composition instead. It stands as a significant release, marking the return of the circulating dollar coin after a multi-decade hiatus that followed the Peace Dollar series. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Positioned directly above the 1971 date is the small letter D, indicating its origin at the Denver production facility. The word LIBERTY is inscribed clearly on this side, framing the likeness of the former general and president. The reverse side shifts focus from terrestrial leadership to space exploration, replicating the official insignia of the Apollo XI lunar mission. It depicts an eagle descending toward the surface of the moon, clutching an olive branch in its talons. In the background, the planet Earth is visible, positioned so that the outline of North America can be discerned. This specimen has been officially graded as Mint State 67 (MS-67), representing an exceptionally well-preserved example of this modern clad issue.
