1971-S 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar BU (Blue Mint Envelope)
In 1971, the United States Mint introduced a large-format dollar coin honoring both a celebrated leader and a monumental human achievement. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this particular version contains 40 percent silver, yielding 0.3161 troy ounces of precious metal. Offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin retains its original mint luster and sharp details just as it appeared when first packaged in its official blue mint envelope. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Dwight David Eisenhower, serving as a dual tribute to his roles as a five-star general and the 34th President of the United States. Surrounding his portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1971 date and the S mint mark. On the reverse, the design shifts from earthly leadership to cosmic exploration, replicating the official insignia of the Apollo XI space mission. An eagle is depicted carrying an olive branch as it descends toward the surface of the moon, with the planet Earth visible in the distant background. Thirteen stars encircle the central design, framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, ONE DOLLAR.
