The 1973 Washington quarter stands as a bright example of modern United States currency. Stripped of its original silver content following the legislative changes of the Coinage Act of 1965, this issue features a copper core clad in a cupronickel alloy. This specific composition gives the coin its distinct metallic luster and durability, marking a significant departure from the precious metals used in earlier decades. Originally introduced on August 1, 1932, the Washington quarter design was created to replace the preceding Standing Liberty quarter. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington, accompanied by the classic inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1973 date. The reverse displays a proud eagle design with the traditional mottos "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR."
