1978 Washington Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 1978 Brilliant Unc

The 1978 Washington quarter represents a modern chapter in one of America's most enduring coin designs. Originally introduced in 1932, this quarter was created to honor the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. It replaced the previous Standing Liberty design and officially entered circulation on August 1, 1932. While early versions of this coin were struck in silver, the composition changed significantly following the Coinage Act of 1965. This 1978 issue features the modern composition of cupronickel clad copper. Struck at the Philadelphia mint, this specific coin remains in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving its original luster. The obverse displays the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1978 date. The reverse features a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, surrounded by the traditional mottos UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR clearly marked below.
