1982-S Washington Quarter Gem Proof

0.0000 troy oz 1982 Gem Proof

The 1982-S Washington Quarter represents a modern chapter in a classic American coin series. First introduced in 1932, this quarter-dollar design was originally created to mark the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Upon its debut on August 1, 1932, it took the place of the preceding Standing Liberty design. While early versions of this coin were struck in silver, the composition underwent a permanent change in 1965. This 1982 specimen features the modern copper-nickel clad copper composition. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin is preserved in Gem Proof quality, displaying the sharp details and polished fields characteristic of specialized proof minting. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington accompanied by the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1982". The reverse side displays the traditional eagle motif surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "QUARTER DOLLAR", and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
