1984-S Washington Quarter Gem Proof
This 1984-S Washington Quarter represents a modern chapter in a coin series that first began in 1932. Originally introduced to mark the two hundredth anniversary of George Washington's birth, this design took the place of the Standing Liberty quarter. While the earliest versions of this quarter were struck in silver, pieces produced after 1965 feature a copper core clad in cupronickel. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this specific coin is a Gem Proof issue, displaying the sharp details and polished finishes characteristic of specialized proof craftsmanship. The obverse features the familiar profile of George Washington, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST, with the year 1984 inscribed below. The reverse of the coin displays an eagle with outstretched wings. Surrounding the central eagle design are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of QUARTER DOLLAR.
