In 1985, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking version of the classic Washington quarter, preserved here in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This twenty-five cent piece features a multi-layered metal composition, consisting of a copper and nickel outer blend bonded securely to an inner core of pure copper. This specific metallurgical combination has been the standard for circulating United States quarters since the mid-1960s, providing both durability and a bright, silvery appearance. The obverse of the coin displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, the first President of the United States, originally modeled by sculptor John Flanagan. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1985 date and the P mint mark, which designates its origin at the Philadelphia facility. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. This design, which symbolizes both strength and peace, is accompanied by the traditional national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the country name UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
